Recently, I appeared on the official podcast of the Professional Football Researchers Association (PFRA), of which I’m a member, to discuss my newly published book, George Allen: A Football Life. The hosts of “The Official PFRA Podcast,” George and Jon Bozeka, led the wide-ranging 40-minute interview. Among other topics, I elaborated on Allen’s ties to Chicago Bears assistant coach Chuck Mather, a legendary high school football coach from the Bozekas’ area in northeast Ohio; Allen’s relationships with George Halas, Edward Bennett Williams and Richard Nixon; why I chose Dick Vermeil to write the Foreword; and comparisons in the coaching styles of George Allen to fellow Redskins coaching luminary Joe Gibbs.
