2019 VA FEATURE WRITING AWARD
In a 2019 VA Communications Contest, Mike Richman placed first in FEATURE WRITING for his articles on VA efforts to help Veterans with PTSD, to assist Veterans who have collided with the law, and to ease Veteran reintegration into society after deployment.
2019 VHA COMMUNICATIONS BEST OF SHOW
In a 2019 VA communications contest, Mike Richman won Best of Show for communications excellence for his “Efforts to Assist Veterans” feature series. The series featured his three articles on highlights in VA research: A VA researcher using religion as a therapy to help Veterans with PTSD; a VA researcher who is exploring trends and characteristics related to Veterans who collide with the criminal justice system; and how two volunteer programs are helping Veterans reintegrate into society and improve mental health.
2017 VA FEATURE WRITING AWARD
In a 2017 VA communications contest, Mike Richman placed first in feature writing for his article on a study by the James A. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx, New York, to test a robotic exoskeleton for its ability to help paralyzed Veterans walk.
2016 BROADCASTING BOARD OF GOVERNORS
The Broadcasting Board of Governors, the U.S. government body that oversees the Voice of America and the other U.S.-funded broadcast agencies, presented Mike Richman with a plaque in 2016 for his “outstanding dedication and commitment” to the BBG’s Office of Public Affairs.
2016 VOICE OF AMERICA CAREER RECOGNITION AWARD
In 2016, the Voice of America honored Mike Richman with a Career Recognition Award for his 14 years of service to the U.S.-funded broadcast agency. He left VOA in 2016 to work at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
2013 ALLIANCE FOR COMMUNITY MEDIA
In 2013, the Alliance for Community Media, which represents more than 3,000 represents Public, Educational and Governmental (PEG) access organizations and community media centers in the country, presented Mike Richman with a “Hometown Media Award” for his production of the Redskins’ TV show, “Burgundy & Gold Magazine.”
2013 TEMPLE UNIVERSITY GALLERY OF SUCCESS
In 2013, Mike Richman was inducted into the Temple University Gallery of Success. He represented Temple’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, from which he earned a Master’s degree in 1993. He was inducted based on his accomplishments in sports journalism, including his authorship of the books The Redskins Encyclopedia, the Washington Redskins Football Vault and Joe Gibbs: An Enduring Legacy. He was also acknowledged for producing and hosting the TV show “Burgundy and Gold Magazine.”
